The SDSU women’s track team had successful meet at the Vance Butler Invitational in Sioux Falls on April 3. Sara Ackman set a regional standard in the discus, throwing for 47.80 meters which broke the regional standard mark of 47.30m.
Ackman found herself earning another first-place finish in the shot put when she made a toss of 46 feet, 08.75 inches.
The Jackrabbits were just happy to get the meet in since the weather forecast for the weekend threatened to cancel the competition; instead, it got pushed up from April 4 to April 3.
“It was good. Again we were very happy to get the meet in; we were thinking it might not happen due to the weather forecast,” SDSU head coach Rod DeHaven said.
In the 400-meter dash, Megan Lauseng gained a first-place finish for the Jackrabbits as she clocked in at a time of 60.08 seconds.
Brittany Garner had another solid meet as she earned a duo of first place finishes, one in the 100-meter dash and another in the 200-meter dash. Garner finished the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.23 and the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.46.
“Solid day – [Garner] winning the 4×100 relay and 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Nicole Davis had a good steeplechase, and I’m sure there are many other marks I am forgetting, as well,” DeHaven said.
Davis earned a second-place finish in the 3,000-steeplechase, crossing the finish in 11:17.46.
In the field events, Tamiko Kopfmann was victorious in the long jump with a leap of 18-01.00.
Ashley Lange won the triple jump with a distance of 37-05.75.
In the women’s hammer throw, Michelle Schuch placed first with a toss of 162-08 followed by teammate Christa Landmark in second in a distance of 147-11.
The Jackrabbit women will head to Bison Invitational in Fargo, N.D., to compete on April 8.
