Nyblom’s first goal of the season came at the 82:45 mark in the win.

“It shows the character of our team, we were playing very well right away until the goal,” SDSU coach Lang Wedemeyer said. “To their credit they came back. I think that tying the game up in the first half was really important.”

Kayla Braffet passed the ball to her left to a wide-open Nyblom who faked her shot getting Drake goalkeeper Kourtney Arnold to dive early and Nyblom kicked the ball past her. Braffet received the pass first from teammate Danni Healy.

“It was one of the things we have been working on, she didn’t rush her shot and got the easy put away to win it for us,” Wedemeyer said.

Drake’s Ali Walsh got the scoring started for the night as she scored on a cross from teammate Crystal Townley 15:46 into the game.

“As I have said, I think we’re getting better each time we come out,” Wedemeyer said. “One thing with a young team, sometimes you will give up soft goals like that.”

SDSU answered just over seven minutes later when Kaitlin Justice scored her second goal of the season off a header from teammate Emily Quigley.

The shots were almost even as the Jacks had 16 shots and Drake had 12.

Dani Pappas got the nod in the net for SDSU as she allowed one goal and made three saves. For Drake, goalkeeper Kourtney Arnold made five saves while allowing two goals.

Up next for the Jacks they head to Kansas for the Kansas Tournament where they will take on Missouri State at Lawrence, Kansas on Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m. In the second game of the tournament on Sept. 20 SDSU will play Kansas at 1:00 p.m.
