The SDSU men’s cross country team earned a first place finish at the SDSU Classic under a light rain at Edgebrook Golf Course on Oct. 3. The Jackrabbits earned the four places in the top seven to claim the victory in their only home meet of the season.
Michael Krsnak led the Jacks with a strong running performance to claim a third place finish in 25 minutes, 48.8 seconds. Greg Vollmer crossed the line for the Jackrabbits in fourth place in a time of 25:53.4.
“They met the challenge to come in and win the meet,” SDSU coach Rod DeHaven said.
Rounding out the other runners in the top seven were Anthony Bongard, Marshall Kambestad and Greg Beesley.
The SDSU men rebounded from a 16th place finish at the Roy Griak last weekend with a strong performance at home. “They came out and wanted to rebound from the performance last week,” DeHaven said.
James Krajsa from Minnesota State, Mankato took home the individual men’s title in a time of 25:32.3
The Women’s cross country team took home fourth place having seniors Ashley Storm in 14th place and Nicole Davis in 17th place led the team in 18:22.9 and 18:48.1 respectively.
“It was what we wanted, if we can get our sixth and seven runners closer to our fifth then we should be ok,” DeHaven said.
“She keeps rolling along,” DeHaven said of Storm. “If the race was another kilometer she gets past a couple more runners. We need her to keep rolling in order for us to be successful.”
The women’s individual title was claimed by Kansas State’s Beverly Ramos in 17:11.5.
