A local Jackrabbit was recently stolen from the yard of a Brookings resident. A wooden Jackrabbit, that is.
The wooden Jackrabbit sculpture that was purchased by a Brookings resident was recently stolen off of their front porch. The sculpture was valued at $3,000.
“The sculpture was taken sometime between Dec. 16 at noon and Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.,” said Lt. Derrick Powers, of the Brookings Police Department.
Powers said the sculpture was about four feet tall, shaped like a jackrabbit and belonged to Pete and Jo Binker. It was stolen from their yard on the 900 block of Pamela Drive in Brookings.
“The sculpture was purchased at the Stan Marshall Fundraiser, which is put on by SDSU to raise money for SDSU athletics,” said Powers. “The couple is a long-time supporter of SDSU.”
There are only two other Jackrabbit sculptures in Brookings that are like the one that was stolen.
“There will be a cash reward offered to anyone with information regarding this,” said Powers.
