Hobo Week ended in tragedy with the death of a student in Pierson Hall.
Aaron Hohwieler, a second-year electronic engineering technology major from Sioux Falls, was found dead in his Pierson Hall room after University Police responded to a call at 5:43 p.m.
The cause of death has not been released.
“The SDSU community is deeply saddened by the Aaron’s death,” Marysz Rames, vice president for student affairs, said in a university statement released on Oct. 25. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends as they deal with this tragic event. The university continues to offer support to those impacted, including family, friends, students and faculty during this difficult time.”
Students were cleared from the second floor and later met in Pierson’s Hobo Hangout where Rames, Executive Assistant to the President Bob Otterson and residential life staff informed the floor of the death.
Later that night, counseling and residential life staff invited the entire hall to the Hobo Hangout to talk about what happened.
