Goals for the Opinion Section

Hello everyone, my  name is KySean Gregory, I’m this semester’s Opinion Editor. I am so excited to hold this position. I’m really looking forward to reading what everyone has to say, I have always been that person who enjoyed listening to others’ views. And at the same time I have also always been the person to argue their opinion about a certain subject, even if it wasn’t wanted. Some of my friends call me closed-minded, when in actuality I’m very open-minded, but I love to challenge someone to actually fight for their opinions. I’m never afraid to say what is on my mind. I think that’s how the world should operate. Think about it, imagine if everyone told you how they really felt about something. There would never be back stabbing or things like that. Ultimately if everyone told each other how they felt on a regular basis, it could actually lead to better friendship.

I want to bring that aspect of defending your opinion to The Collegian. Now I’m not saying that I want to see any bashing. But I would like see people thinking outside of their normal mindset and actually stating their opinions and arguing for what they believe in. It would be really cool if there was more than one article about that same topic, with different opinions. I strongly encourage that.

Another thing I would love to see, would be more philosophical opinions, for an example, do you really feel that human beings have free will or is every decision that we make already based on something that we were previously influenced on? Those types of questions are always interesting to read about. Well, in my opinion anyway. But I guess that’s the whole point of an opinion section in a newspaper. So, if you want to write and share your opinions please do so. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
