A fire Friday night damaged a storage warehouse on the property of Brookings Area Transit Authority (BATA).
No buses were in the warehouse at the time. No one was injured in the fire. Damaged items from the fire were limited to tires and hoses inside the warehouse, said Peter Bolzer, Brookings Fire deputy chief. An excavator was also called in to tear down the door of the warehouse.
Authorities estimate the fire began due to a wrecked car sitting in an impound lot next to the storage warehouse, but the exact cause of the fire is unknown. The fire began at about 10 p.m. Friday and was extinguished by 11 p.m.
The Brookings Fire Department, Brookings Police Department and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene of the fire.
