The South Dakota State Jackrabbits pushed their win streak to ten as they defeated the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 66-45 and now sit at 10-0 in conference play and 20-3 overall.
As for the Hawks, they drop to 3-7 for conference play with an overall record of 8-15.
In the first quarter, a missed 3-pointer by the Hawks created an opportunity for Mesa Boym to drill a shot behind the arc, giving the Jacks an early 3-0 lead.
Both teams ended the first quarter in a tie at 11-11.
The second quarter wasn’t too hot for the Jacks. The Jacks scored a total of 9 points while allowing the Hawks 17, with SDSU trailing 20-28 going into the half.
The Jacks fired on all cylinders in the third quarter with back-to-back lay-ups from Iowa native Brooklyn Meyer. Katie Vasecka, Madison Mathiowetz and Haleigh Timmer all hit big-time multiple shots from deep, putting the Jacks in the lead.
To end the third quarter, senior Kallie Theisen helped put the Jacks up 6 points with a lay-up totaling a score of 41-35. The Jacks kept up this momentum going into the fourth quarter as Timmer got a steal nine seconds into the quarter and put the Jacks up two more points earned from the charity stripe.
The Hawks couldn’t keep up, only scoring ten points in the fourth quarter.
Shinning for the Jacks was Brooklyn Meyer as she totaled 19 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Brooklyn Meyer went 7-10 from field goal and 5-6 from the free throw line.
Timmer was a big help for the Jacks as she contributed 14 points of her own but also had four steals and three rebounds. Timmer’s 14 brought her career points total over 1,000 and made her the 44th student-athlete to do so.
Byom was all over the stat sheet with nine points, four boards, three assists and a pair of steals. Paige Meyer was all for finding teammates as she totaled eight assists and had four points herself.
Overall the Jacks shot 43% from the floor and had 28 points in the paint. With hot hands, the Jacks created 27 points from turnovers. UND shot 41% from the field and had 27 turnovers to SDSU’s 12.
Leading the Fighting Hawks was freshman Jocelyn Schiller, who tallied 13 points and four rebounds. Walker Demers led the Hawks with five rebounds while adding 11 points.
