Did an American astronaut ever actually set foot on the moon?

Down the Rabbit Hole: Conspiracy Theory Club discussed this burning question during its inaugural meeting on Sunday night, Sept. 16.

More than 50 students gathered in Rotunda D to watch short video clips from the documentary “Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land On The Moon?” and have friendly discussions on the validity of the theory that NASA and the United States government staged several elaborate hoaxes to make it appear as though man landed on the moon.

Club Vice President Courtney Cameron said she was pleased with the turnout and events of the first-ever meeting for the new club.

“We weren’t really sure what was going to happen,” Cameron said. “No one got mad at each other and everyone was able to learn something new and we may have changed some minds.”

The documentary used to foster discussion used sources such as current and former NASA employees, chemists, physicists and photography experts to present a scientific argument that man’s voyages to the moon may not be an absolute certainty.

One student who attended Sunday evening’s meeting was sophomore biotechnology and microbiology major Moriah Flanagan. She came to the meeting out of sheer curiosity and left the meeting with scrambled thoughts of what she thought to be a clearly evident truth: man landed on the moon.

“I don’t even know what to think anymore,” Flanagan said.

Down the Rabbit Hole: Conspiracy Theory Club will host its next meeting on Oct. 21 with a topic yet to be determined.
