The SDSU baseball team traveled again to Missouri for this weekend’s games. The first game the team played was on Friday against Emporia State at the MIAA Challenge Tournament in Warrensburg, Missouri.
The Jacks ended up losing the game, ending with a score of 13-9. Greg Geary had 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Matt Hanson, Ryan Sauter and Ben Morrison had two hits each. Hanson had a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
The MIAA Challenge continued on Saturday against Central Missouri and the Jacks ended up losing the game 13-1.
Central Missouri had a very productive sixth inning and was able to score seven runs. They ended the game with the ten-run rule.
Freshman Ryan Greene had three of SDSU’s hits which included a double and Hansen had the other hit for the team.
On Sunday, SDSU again lost to Washburn with a score of 10-2. The SDSU baseball team was limited to five hits off of four different Washburn pitchers. Ryan Hansen was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Morrison had a fly that counted for the team’s other RBI of the game.
Both runs of this game were scored in the sixth inning when Geary led with a double. He scored on a double by Hansen, who scored on Morrison’s fly ball.
SDSU also committed three errors during Washburn’s six-run inning. This meant that five of the seven runs allowed by starter Tigh Surdez were not assessed to him.
Surdez said that the team isn’t used to playing outdoors quite yet, since most of their traning has been done indoors at the Barn because of the cold weather so far this spring.
“Last week was one of the first times being outside for the team,” said Surdez.
He also said that there is a lack of upperclassmen on the team this year.
“Our team is young, there’s not as much experience,” he said.
SDSU is now 1-9 for their overall season. Their next game
