Editor-in-Chief,

I don’t believe you are a following Christian. You may be a believer; but it doesn’t appear that you are a follower and living for Christ. I don’t know about others but I personally wept for the punishment Christ received because of our sins. Perhaps you should invest in a book: The Passion of Jesus Christ by John Piper. Maybe you might want to read the Holy Bible a little more, also. This film is 100% about Christ. The passion in this movie is related to the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ. We, as Americans, mostly grow up learning that Jesus died on the cross for us. But does or has anyone ever realized the pain and suffering that Christ bared for our sin? I never did till this movie. I realized how much I don’t deserve his sacrifice and how much he deserved my absolute surrender. This is a successful movie. It has outdone The Lord of The Rings! It says in Matthew, Mark and Luke that Jesus was flogged. In John my Bible (NIV Life Application) marks references to Matthew 27:32-34, Mark 15:21-24 and Like 23:26-31. So there’s your answer for the flogging. You ask, “Why should we care?” We should care because that is part of the suffering he endured so we could be forgiven and have a close relationship with God and a chance to have eternal life. Who cares about the graphicness compared to Saving Private Ryan? Besides, society is so numb to violence because of television and movies. This just actually bothers one because it happened to a human being in real life. This movie shows that one of the reasons Christ died for us is because of his endless love for us, that is one of at least 50 reasons why we can love Christ (50 reasons are in The Passion of Jesus Christ book). Gibson did not make humanity the villain. He clearly showed that it was God’s will. At the beginning, when he was praying, Christ sayed “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” At the end he cries “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” It was God’s decision and Gibson showed this. It appears to my friends and I that you went to this movie to criticize it. Maybe you should go back and watch it for what God wants you to see it for. A way to show you that He gave His one and only Son and that who so ever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting love. “The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause, but the meaning – God’s meaning.” (John Piper).
