Raising Helen PG-13Touchstone PicturesDirected by Gary Marshall (Beaches, The Other Sister, PrincessDiaries 1&2, Pretty Woman)

Kate Hudson stars as Helen, a fashion designer’s assistant, whose life as a club-hopping, well-dressed business woman comes to a halt when her sister and brother-in-law are killed in a car accident.

Upon reviewing the will, Helen discovers that it is she, and not her other more motherly sister, who is bestowed custody of her two nieces and nephew.

Helen accepts the challenge of trying to balance her career and independence with her new family and is presented with several obstacles along the way.

Final Verdict: Along with How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, this Kate Hudson movie was an idealistic comedy with a cookie-cutter ending. Yet, Pastor Dan, Helen’s possible love interest played by John Corbett (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) with his suave Christian ways, and Joan Cusack (School of Rock), Helen’s very-pregnant other sister who is addicted to potpourri and knitting, make this movie funny.

Also Rent: If you like this one, some movies along a similar vein include: Stepmom, Big Daddy, and Jersey Girl.
