Before the Jacks take on Augustana in the homecoming football game, crowds will line the streets of Brookings for another homecoming tradition at SDSU.

Students, Brookings residents and SDSU alums can unite in school spirit on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m. for the Hobo Day Parade.

With the student union under construction until summer, this year’s Hobo Day theme is Hobos Under Construction.

The parade entries are still coming in to Grand Pooba Kasey Bickel, a sophomore from Timber Lake.

SDSU student clubs and organizations have until Thursday, Nov. 4, to submit entries to the University Program Council.

All of the parade entries incorporate the construction theme, Bickel said.

Fraternities Delta Chi, Farmhouse, sorority Alpha Xi Delta, and Pierson and Mathews Halls were some of the first to submit their entry forms.

Finding a truck, procrastinating until Friday to start decorating a float, and getting up early on a Saturday morning are all just part of the fun of being in the parade.

The parade route begins at Medary Avenue, following the traditional route down 6th Street and Main Street. Look out for Hobo favorites Weary Will and Dirty Lil, along with the Pride of the Dakotas marching band and plenty of Jackrabbit fans.
