Finding an apartment in Brookings is getting harder to do as the days go by. Make sure you have some place to live when you come back to school next year, by getting on the ball and finding an apartment now.
When finding an apartment, call one of your friends who already rents one and find out the name of their landlord. Call them to find out if they have any apartments you can rent. When calling that landlord, it will help to say you know one of their tenants.
If you are not able to find anyone, simply turn to the back of the Brookings phone book and start calling around. One thing to remember when calling is to make sure you know what you are looking for. “I wanted to make sure I had a decent-sized apartment to live in, that was my main concern,” said Penny Brandt, a junior in human and family development studies.
Brandt also goes on to say, she is glad she has two other people to live with, and share the rent.
Once you find the apartment you are looking for, it will be time to sign the lease. It seems like the longest, jargon-filled document you have ever read. Make sure to read over the entire lease, and pay close attention to costs, and what hidden language the landlord might have added. It is almost impossible to get out of any lease.
