Letter to the Editor: Vote No on 6

staff

In about two weeks, South Dakotans will be voting on whether to adopt a law that would prohibit nearly every abortion performed in the state. Nobody likes the idea of abortion, but the law does not contain any exception to protect the health of pregnant women.

There are very serious health problems that can arise during a pregnancy that would not immediately put the mother’s life in imminent danger. Without an exception for the health of the mother, this law is condemning women to who contract these illnesses to permanent infertility, a lifetime of excruciating pain and possibly death after the pregnancy is over. Not only that, but any doctor who tried to help these women would end up in jail.

Our laws are in place to protect our citizens, not endanger their health. Vote NO on Referred Law 6.
