With big name schools such as Boise State University, University of Wisconsin, Oregon State University, Hofstra, University of Nebraska, University of Missouri and other schools around the country in at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, the Jackrabbit wrestling squad struggled on the mat.

At the Las Vegas Convention Center, four wrestlers failed to win a match and went 0-2 for the 37th Annual Collegiate Invite, including Marvin Alan who experienced a Technical Fall when he was beat by Gave Flores 15-0 and was later pinned. Nick Kulseth went 0-2 and lost by way of decision in a very close battle with Jimmy Conroy of Pittsburg 6-5 in the first round of the 133-pound weight class.

Despite one other Jackrabbit going 0-2, some grapplers fared better than their teammates.

Adam Everson beat Zack Kemmerer of Pennsylvania in an 8-5 decision. Everson went on to beat his last opponent in a 10-2 major decision. Ryan Meyer shut out both of his opponents from Western State and Rider with back-to-back 7-0 wins to close out the invite 2-2 at 165.

Brady Punt got his only win of the day via a pin against Steve Franklin of San Francisco State College in the heavy weight class. Justin Retallic in the 174-weight class went 1-2 and his only win came through a pin at the 1:46 mark against Nate Myers of Western Wyoming.

The Jacks did not have wrestlers competing at the 149-pound, 184-pound or the 197-pound weight classes.

Over 50 schools from all over the United States came to wrestle at the invite on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

SDSU overall earned nine points, making them the 41st team in the invite, out-dueling nine other schools including Ohio University.

Top ten teams over the weekend were: 1. Michigan-127.5; 2. Missouri-125; 3. Ohio State-121; 4. Nebraska-112.5; 5. Wisconsin-107.5; 6. Illinois-100; 7. Edinboro-85; 8. Cal St. Fullerton-68.5; 8. Pittsburg-68.5; 10. Hofstra-61.

Up next for the Jacks is University of Nebraska at Frost Arena on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. The first 200 fans will receive free whoppers courtesy of Burger King. Feed the Fans will start at 6 p.m. This will be the first dual match of the season for the Jacks.
