It only took about 10 minutes for St. Cloud State to get on the scoreboard against the SDSU men’s hockey team on Feb. 9th. Unfortunately for the Jacks, SCSU scored six more goals over the next 50 minutes in a 7-0 rout.

Following a 5-2 setback the previous night, the Jacks hoped to get off to a fast start, but it was SCSU that started fast. With just over 10 minutes left in the first period, Danny Heinzman put SCSU up 1-0; a minute later, Ross Tichy would add a goal to put SCSU up 2-0. The score would remain there throughout the period.

SCSU doubled their lead on goals by Brenen Johnson and Brady Sharstrom in the second period. It was pretty much all she wrote 29 seconds into the third period when Sharstrom got his second goal of the night. Matt Dalum rounded out the scoring with a goal with just over nine minutes left.

St. Cloud was bigger and faster than the Jacks and was able to execute their game plan. SCSU did not allow the Jacks to get any clean looks. Any chance the Jacks had was stopped by SCSU goalie Brett Denman.

Following a bench-clearing brawl the night before, the game was very physical. There were plenty of skirmishes between the two teams, but the refs were able to keep it under control for the most part.

The Jacks, 5-18 on the season, are off until Feb. 22-23 when they host the JV team from Iowa State. Game times are scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Larson Ice Center.
