Letter to the Editor: Competition coverage lacking

staff

Dear Editor, You don’t have to print my letter but I wanted to contact you regarding coverage of the SDSU Forensics Team. I log into the college paper Web site frequently hoping but never expecting to see anything regarding the Forensics Team. My son Steven is a Senior at SDSU and has been on the team for four years now. He has recently qualified four of his events for the National Tournament in Austin, TX in April. In recent tounaments he has placed in five out of five events and received “all-around” honors. But again, since this is not a sporting activity I never see any coverage in your paper. The team is small, granted, but don’t you think these students deserve to be applauded for their efforts just like all the successful “jocks”? After all, and “all-around champion is an all-around champion” no matter what the event, correct? As I’m sure you are aware, public speaking is one of the scariest things for most adults to even contemplate. Yet the forensic team students prepare and perform their events week after week and never receive any attention for their efforts. Please consider this and thank you for listening.
