The Jackrabbit men’s and women’s tennis teams went on the road this past weekend, and both came back winless.

Both teams played at Creighton (Neb.)on Friday and Drake(Iowa) on Feb.1 with the men’s team also competing against Saint Louis on Feb. 2.

Against Creighton the Jacks did not win a set in the dual, losing 7 matches to zero. Sophomore Corey Paluch, at No. 2 singles, came close for the Jacks, but he bowed out in straight sets 4-6, 4-6. The No. 1 doubles team of junior Michael Engdahl and Paluch lost a tough match 4-8.

Against nationally ranked Drake on Saturday, SDSU again fell victim to a 7-0 defeat with the Jacks failing to win a set. Paluch lost a heartbreaking first set 5-7 before losing the second set 2-6, and the team of Engdahl and Paluch competed against the No. 1 doubles team from Drake before being downed 6-8. The No. 3 doubles team of freshman Cody Malik and senior Steve Grantz also competed but were defeated 4-8.

In the nightcap against Saint Louis, the Jacks were able to get their first match victory of the year but lost 4-1. Paluch won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Jeff Hughes, at No. 3 singles, lost in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. After singles play had concluded and Saint Louis had the dual wrapped up, the dual was called off.

The women’s team did not fair much better than their male counterparts. Against Creighton, freshman Emma Wylie got the Jacks on the board at No. 5 singles, but it was all they would get as they would fail to win a set in any other match.

Drake’s women’s team completed the sweep over the Jacks with a 7-0 victory on Saturday. The Jacks failed to win a set and were defeated in all of the matches.

Both teams are winless on the year with women sitting at 0-4 while the men are at 0-3. Both teams return to action on Feb. 14 with the men traveling to Air Force while the women are at Northern Colorado.
