Jacks women have strong showing at ISU Open

At the Iowa State Open in Ames, Iowa, SDSU junior Heather Wollman earned a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.02 seconds, which is good for second all-time at SDSU. Wollman also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.68 seconds, third in the Jackrabbit record book.

Ashley Lange, a junior at SDSU, placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 36 feet 11 inches. She finished fourth in the meet, and the distance was good for ninth all-time.

For the Jacks, Sara Ackman placed first in the shot put and missed the school record by one-half inch, throwing 48 feet, 9 inches; her throw is second all-time at SDSU.

Brittany Garner, already having earned the third best 60-meter dash time at SDSU earlier this season, added her name to the records again, placing eighth at the meet and ninth in the record book with a time of 8.09. Garner also placed ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.47.

Senior Stacy Huss placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 17.91 seconds. Also for the Jacks, Amanda Frohling came in 17th in 2:25.69.

SDSU had two vaulters place in the top 10, with Garner placing fourth and Kristi Mortenson placing 10th. Garner finished with a jump a 11 feet, 5.25 inches, placing her fourth overall and second all-time at SDSU while Mortenson finished 10th and seventh all-time at State.

In the long jump, Rachael Hakk earned a fourth-place finish for the Jackrabbits with a jump of 17 feet, 04.75 inches. Minnesota State Mankato’s Katelin Rains won the event with a distance of 18-06.00

In the 5000-meter run non-seeded, Sarah Hanson earned a ninth place finish for the Jacks with a time of 19:36.51.

Jessica Ludvik placed 20th in the 3,000-meter run non-seeded competition for SDSU, with a time of 11:30.08.

For the Jacks, Danielle Burke placed fifth in the one-mile run with a time of 5:05.94. Bradley University’s Katie Nowak won the event in 4:50.88.

The SDSU women will compete again on Jan. 30 when they go to Fargo, N.D., for the Dakota Duals Invitational.
