Freshman earns another top-ten Jacks record at Iowa State Open

The SDSU men’s track team placed three runners in the top nine in the 60-meter hurdles and in the top nine in the SDSU record books Jan. 24 in Ames, Iowa, on the second day of the Iowa State Open. Brandon Priebe finished fifth, which was good for sixth fastest at SDSU with a time of 8.35 seconds.

Nick Schanaman placed seventh at the ISU meet and in the record books with a time of 8.40. Andrew Duitsman finished ninth at the meet and in the record books at 8.42.

Sean Burns earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put after throwing 53 feet and .25 inches. That earned him fifth place and was good for third all-time at SDSU.

Jared Vlastuin continues to land in the long jump record books; he placed seventh with a distance of 23 feet 2.75 inches. Vlastuin currently holds the record in the long jump, and his jump at ISU gave him his second top-10 mark in his first season, adding the eighth best jump.

Anthony Bongard took first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:49.09 followed by Brad Anderson who placed third with a time of 8:57.92

JaRon Harris, a former football player, placed 19th overall in the 60-meter dash in his track debut. His time of 7.07 seconds earned him third all-time at SDSU.

Northern Iowa’s Mike Beese placed first in the pole vault with a jump of 16 feet, 05.50 inches. SDSU’s Tyler Schiferl earned seventh place with a jump of 15-00.00.

Camden Helder placed 11th in the high jump for SDSU with a leap of 6 feet, 05.00 inches.

The distance medley team of Jake Schneller, Greg Vollmer, Lars Mattison and Mike Krsnak scored a fourth-place finish with a time of 10:09.75
