MAMMA MIA!’ showcases pizzazz

On a beautiful Greek island, a girl is working on planning the perfect wedding, but one thing is missing: her father. The musical MAMMA MIA! was recently performed at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.

As the curtain opened, it was easy for me to see that the cast was wonderfully talented. Each performer was able to take their character and make them their own. The cast successfully engrossed the audience throughout every minute of the musical.

Yet, the musical is not the same as the 2008 movie. The musical had more songs than the movie did, while the film’s sets were more elaborate than those in the play. Movie sets must be larger than life, especially when it’s a musical. With the limitations that performing a musical on stage can bring to each set and scene, it was great to see how the company arranged each set.

Watching the show was amazing and one of the best performances I have ever seen. When the show started, I expected it to be exactly like the movie. I soon found out that it was different and much better, in my opinion, than the movie. I would encourage anyone to go to this musical if they have a chance the next time it shows.
