Next month marks the annual celebration of Black History Month. February was chosen because it marks the birthdays of two Americans who influenced the lives of African-Americans: President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass. The remembrance was started by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator and publisher.
