After capping off an 8-2 regular season with a win over rival South Dakota on Saturday, the South Dakota State football team secured a top-eight seed in the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs.
It was only a matter of where the FCS selection committee placed the Jackrabbits.
On the live playoff selection show Sunday morning, it was announced SDSU earned the fifth seed in this year’s field of 24.
The Jacks will host the winner of the first-round matchup between Towson and Duquesne at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
The road to the FCS National Championship will not be easy.
The other seeded team on SDSU’s side of the bracket are No. 1 North Dakota State (11-0), No. 4 Kennesaw State (10-1) and No. 8 Colgate (9-1).
This seeding sets up a potential rematch with the Bison should the Jackrabbits and their northern rivals advance to the national semifinals.
