The Predator – Sep. 14
Another reboot, another 80s callback. Director Shane Black brings back the “Predator” sci-fi with an adrenaline-fueled cast. Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key and Olivia Munn all spar with the intergalactic sport hunter.
A Star is Born – Oct. 5
Lady Gaga makes her silver screen debut in Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, “A Star is Born,” a romantic, musical flick. The movie addresses substance abuse for people in the limelight while serving up a magnetic chemistry between Cooper and Gaga, as well as an awe-inspiring song list.
Venom – Oct. 5
The Spider-Man universe takes on another character, Venom, an alien symbiote that attaches itself to journalist Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy. Separate from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Venom” will try to establish the character in a franchise that’s already dividing fans because of the trailer’s brash comedy.
First Man – Oct. 12
After the Ryan Gosling and director Damien Chazelle team up for “La La Land”, they are already back for this Neil Armstrong biopic. Partially embroiled in controversy for its omission of the iconic planting of the American flag on the moon, the film is likely a frontrunner for movie awards season.
Halloween – Oct. 19
The slasher known as Michael Myers has returned to finish off an older, more experienced Jamie Lee Curtis in another sequel to the 70s flick. Cue the suspense music and fake blood, this one looks like a doozy.
Bohemian Rhapsody – Nov. 2
With its sensational trailers, this Freddie Mercury biopic takes aim at the music legend’s life and how he wrote the film’s title song. Rami Malek from “Mr. Robot” fame looks poised to clinch the award for best actor for his portrayal of the Queen leading man.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald – Nov. 16
Prepare to re-enter the wizarding world of Harry Potter again, with the sequel to the 2016 “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald and Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore prepare to plunge the magical world into war.
Widows – Nov. 16
When a group of women lose their con-men husbands in a heist job, the widows bond together to finish the job. Viola Davis and Liam Neeson round out the cast for a film likely to garner awards buzz with Steve McQueen behind the camera directing.
Ralph Breaks the Internet – Nov. 21
Have you ever wanted to see a movie with all of the Disney princesses gathered into one room? Then get ready for this animated sequel to deliver with the most self-referential Disney flick yet when Ralph and Penelope take to the online world.
Aquaman – Dec. 14
The DC Cinematic Universe is still reeling from its misstep with “Justice League,” but fan favorite director James Wan seems to be injecting the first “Aquaman” solo film with a breath of fresh air. Trailers for the film indicate Jason Momoa might’ve been the perfect choice to play the deep sea hero.
